The Karinthin was a regional, mineralogical journal in which relevant topics including their history and philology were published for laypeople as well as for mineralogists and geologists . The magazine was a supplement to Carinthia II and was published between 1948 and 1987 with the place of publication Knappenberg (Hüttenberg), then Salzburg. The specialist group for mineralogy and geology of the Natural Science Association for Carinthia acted as the editor . The authors and readership came mainly from the Austrian Alpine countries.

As editor-in-chief, Heinz Meixner made a decisive contribution to this magazine and thus made an important contribution to geological research in the federal states of Carinthia and Salzburg in the four decades of its publication . A few years after Meixner's death, Der Karinthin was discontinued due to economic considerations. A total of 96 issues appeared. Holdings can be found in the Federal Geological Institute and the University Library of the Vienna University of Technology .
