Samuel von Polentz (born January 24, 1698 - † January 28, 1746 in Meißen ) was a Prussian major general and most recently chief of Infantry Regiment No. 13 . He was also Provost of Havelberg , Knight of St. John and Knight of the Order Pour le Mérite . He was also Dorst von Kranenburg and Duisfeld, governor of Ziesar and heir of Langenau.

Life

His parents were the heir to Fröden and Prussian lieutenant colonel Samuel von Polentz and his wife Elisabeth Sophia von Wernsdorff from the house of Kaslau.

Career

He entered Prussian service early on and took part in the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/1716 . Due to his size, he was noticed by King Friedrich Wilhelm I , who took him over into his giant guard . Since he was also a funny partner, he was in the company of the king a lot. On January 18, 1730 he became Dorst von Kranenburg and Duisfeld in the Duchy of Kleve . On November 3, 1731, the king gave the former captain the old Polentz estates Langenau and Nieder-Traupel, which were located in the Schönberg office at that time, with the Kalinow and Kortelow suburbs. He was even assigned this as an allod . In 1739 he got the Dompropstei von Havelberg, which he sold in 1745 with permission to the privy councilor von Voss . In 1738 he became a major. The new King Friedrich II reduced the guard and had the soldiers distributed to other regiments. On June 26, 1740, he was appointed Colonel and Commander of Infantry Regiment No. 35 . On July 2, 1744 he became chief of Infantry Regiment No. 4 , which he ceded to Christoph von Dohna the following year and instead took over Regiment No. 13 . Its boss, Truchsess zu Waldburg , had fallen shortly before. On December 28, 1745 he also received the post of governor of Ziesar. In the second Silesian War he was able to distinguish himself in the battle of Hohenfriedberg and Hennersdorf . He succeeded in conquering the strategically important pass near Fürstenberg on the Oder before the battle . He was seriously injured in the Battle of Kesselsdorf on December 15, 1745 and died on January 28, 1746 in Meißen . On his death he was designated Commander of Schiefelbeim and Wietersheim.

He was married to Sophie Dorothea von Kleist (born November 22, 1718 - September 13, 1795), she was the daughter of Colonel Andreas Joachim von Kleist . The couple had children.
