The killer and the pain in the neck is a French comedy film by Francis Veber from 2008. It is the third film adaptation of Veber's play Le contrat after Die Filzlaus and Buddy Buddy .

action

The prisoner François Randoni is to be questioned before the criminal court in Nice . Criminal circles suspect that he will testify against them and organize the professional killer Jean Milan to shoot Randoni on the way to the court. Milan is assisted by an ally in the police who smuggled weapons into Milan's room across from the courthouse and later allowed him to pass the police checkpoint. The agency reporter François Pignon moves into Milan's next room. He was left by his wife Louise for the psychiatrist Edgar Wolf and suffers greatly from the separation. Because Louise now lives in Nice, Pignon hopes to meet her. Louise refuses to meet. Pignon then tries to hang himself in the bathroom of the hotel, but the shower head chosen for it breaks off. The room waiter finds Pignon and wants to call the police, which Milan prevents. To get the waiter out of the room and prevent the police from appearing, he claims to want to take care of Pignon. From now on, Milan doesn't have a quiet minute.

Milan convinces Pignon to visit Louise personally and tell her about his suicide attempt. Pignon leaves the room, but returns shortly afterwards. Milan is supposed to call Louise and tell her about the suicide attempt, because Pignon fears that he looks too relaxed for a depressed suicide. Pignon and Milan make the call together, which eventually leads the exasperated Edgar Wolf to appear at the hotel to confront Pignon. At that time, this Milan accidentally knocked out in his room, so that Wolf believes Milan is Pignon. So he gave the unconscious Milan a strong sedative. When Milan wakes up shortly afterwards, he can hardly stand on his feet. He threatens Wolf on the phone and gets him to return to the hotel to give him a stimulant. By then, Louise had already arrived and was irritated by the behavior of her new friend. He is extremely jealous of Pignon and is also hardly able to inject Milan with the new remedy. Louise finally leaves, and Wolf and Pignon start a fight. With Milan, on the other hand, the stimulant hits extremely hard and causes twitching. Wolf can only administer an antidote to him late, as he has been knocked out by Pignon in the meantime and has lost his memory. Wolf finally leaves and Pignon also wants to pack his things. He found Milan's rifle, which he had to hide under his bed again and again. When Milan's attempt to snatch the rifle out of Pignon's hand, a shot goes off - at the time, Randoni has just got out in front of the courthouse. The policemen throw themselves to the ground in front of the hotel and start shooting, with Randoni being shot in the rear. Milan resigns, the hotel is surrounded. While an irritant thrower is thrown into the hotel room, Milan and Pignon are preparing for the imminent prison sentence, with Pignon suggesting that both could ask for a shared cell.

production

The killer and the pain in the ass was created with a budget of around 22 million euros. Veber, who wrote the play on which the film is based, directed it himself. With Patrick Timsit and Richard Berry, he cast the main roles with actors who had played the respective roles in a revival of the play in 2005 at the Theater de la Porte-Saint-Martin.

The film opened in French cinemas on December 10, 2008, where it was seen by around 247,000 visitors. The film was released directly on DVD in Germany on January 15, 2010.

criticism

Cinema found that Veber was delivering “over-the-top snappy situation comedy and a pain in the ass that saws excessively. Some jokes also seem a bit tricky ”. It is about “good old stuff”, which is told “without any new gimmicks”. The film service saw an “indestructible buddy comedy” that offered “turbulent, convincingly played entertainment”.
