Patrick Simon Timsit (born July 15, 1959 in Algiers ) is a French actor , cabaret artist , screenwriter and director .

Life

Patrick Timsit was born in 1959 in Algiers as the son of Algerian Jews. As a result of the Algerian War - a bomb exploded next to his father's shop - he and his family moved to Paris in 1961 , where his parents opened a leather goods shop. After completing his baccalaureate , he first worked in the import-export business and later as a real estate agent, but gave up this profession when he discovered his love for the theater. In 1986 Timsit stood in front of the film camera for the first time. In 1993, he received his first nomination for César for Best Supporting Actor for the film comedy The Crisis , with which he became known to a wider audience in the role of an alcoholic on the side of Vincent Lindon . A year later he starred alongside Thierry Lhermitte in the hit adventure film Little Indian (1994), which was re-filmed in 1997 in Hollywood under the title From the jungle, into the jungle with Tim Allen .

Timsit had his biggest success so far with the gay comedy Men Like It Hot! by director Gabriel Aghion at the side of Fanny Ardant and Richard Berry . The film was the most successful French film of the year in France in 1996 with more than four million viewers. Timsit wrote the screenplay for the film together with Aghion, for which both were nominated in the category Best Screenplay for César. Timsit also received a nomination for Best Actor for his role as gay Adrien . Apart from the comedy subject, a role as an actor followed in Molière's time in the historical film Marquise - Dangerous Intrigue (1997) alongside Sophie Marceau and the leading role of the drug dealer "Teddy Bear" in Alain Corneau's thriller Le Cousin - Dangerous Knowledge (1997), for which he played another César nomination received.

With the crime comedy Quasimodo d'El Paris , a modern adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame , Timsit made his directorial debut in 1999, in which he also took on the title role alongside Richard Berry and Mélanie Thierry . With his friend Berry, who in turn gave him the male lead alongside Cécile de France in his directorial debut, the love comedy L'art (délicat) de la séduction (2001), he stood together in front of the camera and also on the theater stage.

In the comedy film Der Killer und die Nervensäge in 2008 Timsit slipped into the character of François Pignon, created by Francis Veber , whom he had previously played on the theater stage alongside Berry and who had already been played by Jacques Brel ( Die Filzlaus , 1973), Pierre Richard ( Die Fugitive , 1986), Jacques Villeret ( Dinner for Weirdos , 1998) and Daniel Auteuil ( A Man Sees Pink , 2001) had been played on screen.

In addition to acting, Timsit has appeared regularly as a cabaret artist in a one-man show since the early 1980s . He has two sons with his wife Sophie.
