action

Dieter "Did" Stricker made a living as an actor, singer and voice actor. Thrown out by his wife Wilma and keeping himself afloat as a street vendor, he is completely broke again, which he tries to hide from the outside world. Then he sees an old friend in Rainer, an advertising specialist and unsuccessful hotelier who holds out the prospect of lucrative employment. Rainer is currently the campaign manager of the right-wing radical party "National Social German Union" (NSDU) for the Bavarian state elections, which lacks a convincing face. Rainer convinces the party leadership around the notary Egon Fuchsmühl to appoint Stricker pro forma as the top candidate. As a trained speaker, he should convincingly bring the texts delivered by the party to the electorate and then disappear again after the election.

Stricker is a resounding success. He makes the halls romp with a mixture of populist theses, flat jokes and self-irony. This style displeases the bourgeois party leaders, but the polls are rising, and with the sudden popularity, Stricker's self-confidence returns, who starts an affair with the young waitress Helga. Gradually, the press begins to take an interest in Stricker and finds out that the alleged widower Stricker is actually married and was thrown out of the door by his wife for alcoholism. Outraged, Fuchsmühl throws Stricker and Rainer out. But Dieter Stricker has meanwhile become too important for the party that they want to bring him back; However, Stricker wants nothing more to do with the "brown shit".

Rainer succeeds in reconciling Dieter with Wilma, and Dieter agrees to continue for the NSDU - but with the resolution to find out as much as possible about the party and to pass it on to the journalist Apfelbaum, who had contacted him beforehand. Indeed, there is much to be found out, as the NSDU is illegally funded by the meat industrial Schlemmer and dubious American sources. However, Apfelbaum wants evidence. After several attempts, Stricker succeeds in forcibly gaining the contents of Fuchsmühl's secret case shortly before the election. When the documents were handed over to Apfelbaum, it turned out that Rainer had assigned them to him. Stricker signs a declaration of withdrawal for health reasons.

In the election, the NSDU entered parliament and declared Stricker's resignation. This withdraws to the country.
