action

The restaurant owner Rafael Belvedere is under professional stress and has financial problems. In addition, he neglects his family, especially his mother Norma, who has Alzheimer's disease and lives in a retirement home and whom he has not visited for over a year. His father Nino has been married to Norma for 44 years, but did not marry her in church, although that was Norma's wish. Nino would like to fulfill this wish of his wife afterwards and asks his son to help him. He refuses because he thinks the hustle and bustle of a wedding is too exhausting for his mother and because her illness means that she cannot see what is happening anyway.

Juan Carlos, a childhood friend, appears surprisingly. Juan Carlos lost his wife and daughter in a tragic car accident and suffered greatly as a result. Eventually he got his life back on track and became an actor.

Rafael lives separated from his wife. His daughter visits him regularly, but she feels misunderstood and neglected by her father. Rafael's partner Naty is also not happy in the relationship.

Rafael has a heart attack. In the hospital, he rethinks his life and wants to change it: He doesn't want to have any more problems.

Back home, there is tension between him and Naty. The friendship with Juan Carlos is put to the test when he confesses that he has fallen in love with Naty. After a heated argument between the friends, Rafael sees Naty hugging a stranger. Furious with jealousy, Rafael insults his girlfriend and tries to hit the man, but it turns out that it is Naty's father who wants to take his daughter to Spain . Rafael and Naty have an argument in a restaurant, which explains to him that she is looking for true love. Rafael explains that true love is only for children. The conversation ends with her leaving him.

Rafael sells his restaurant and takes great care of his daughter, responding to her and reading the poems she wrote. He visits Juan Carlos and the friends reconcile. The church refuses to marry Nino and Norma. Rafael visits his mother and apologizes to her for the grief he has caused her.

In the evening Rafael waits for Naty in front of her house. She comes home late and you can tell how unhappy she is. When she notices Rafael, she doesn't want to talk to him and takes refuge in her house. Over the intercom, Rafael explains that he has seen his mistakes, is not afraid to deal with the problems of his girlfriend and his family, and that he loves her. The two make up.

Nino calls old friends to invite them to his wedding, but learns that some of them have fallen ill or died. A wedding is being staged in the old people's home with Juan Carlos playing the priest. Then everyone celebrates together in a restaurant that Rafael bought.

- International film lexicons

The Bride's Son is a successful comedy with depth, bittersweet, funny and very entertaining. The director Campanella has succeeded in creating a brilliant flick that will most likely be a huge hit with the public. "

- Filmverband-Sachsen

“This film is a real stroke of luck: enchantingly intelligent dialogues that go beyond all artificial parallels. A depth of feeling that never seems cheesy because it is built so close to laughter. And characters who are so alive that you want to pick up the phone the next day to chat a little about God and the world. "
