The circus is coming is a documentary film by the DEFA studio for documentaries by Petra Tschörtner from 1986 .

The head of the Hein circus introduces the youngest members of her circus family . These are the grandchildren Sandra, the daughter of the clown and Jessica, as well as the great-grandchildren Enrico, whose mother works with the snakes, Benjamin, who supports his grandfather in a number, and his sister Mariana, whose parents perform the air and pigeon numbers.
It is shortly before the performance begins and Benjamin is being put on by Sandra, because the mask of a clown is not that easy. In the meantime the performance begins and after an aerial act Benjamin and his grandpa are in a clown scene in which they both want to take a taxi, which is falling apart more and more. They are supported by Sandra. While the performance is still running, the no longer needed utensils and animals for the transport are loaded in front of the tent. Even with the dismantling of the tent has already begun, although not all spectators have left it, then it goes to the next place, where the tent will be set up again in the evening. One day later the first performance takes place in the afternoon and the second performance in the evening. The next day there is an afternoon performance and then it's off again.
So it happens that Sandra has to go to a different school about twice a week. But that's not all, she still has to practice as an artist for her future life, in the case shown on a vertical rope , although she would rather be a clown. But the other children are also introduced to the artistry with exercises , because in a family business it is important that future generations carry on the tradition. Once again different numbers from the ring are shown and then it goes on to the next place.

The first verifiable performance of the film made by the Kinderfilm group on ORWO- Color took place on June 26, 1986 in the Offers series at the Babylon cinema in Berlin .
