Derndorf is a district of the municipality of Kirchheim i. Schw. In the Unterallgäu district . The small village with about 500 inhabitants is at an altitude of about 531 m. The place borders directly on Kirchheim in the south.

history

Finds from the Stone Age and the Roman Age have already been proven in Derndorf. In the course of the Great Migration Derndorf was settled by Alemanni . They called it Dornidorf, which means "village on thorn bushes".

Derndorf was first mentioned in a document in 1090 as the property of Duke Welf. From 1140 Derndorf was split, one part belonged to the Weingarten monastery , the other to the Berchtesgaden monastery . In the 14th century the place was fiefdom of the bishopric Augsburg . In 1372 the village was burned down during a dispute between the Duke of Württemberg and the city of Augsburg. From the end of the 14th century to 1551, the rulership of Kirchheim, to which Derndorf belonged, changed several times - the noble families Freiberg, Schellenberg and Hürnheim are named as owners. In 1551 the latter sold the rule to Anton Fugger . Until the beginning of the 19th century, when the entire area between Iller and Lech became Bavarian, the rulership remained in the possession of the Fuggers.

Derndorf was an independent municipality from 1818, but was incorporated into Kirchheim as part of the regional reform on May 1, 1978.
