Santiago Derqui
Santiago Derqui Rodríguez (* 1809 in Córdoba ; † September 5, 1867 in Corrientes ) was President of Argentina from March 5, 1860 to November 5, 1861 .
Life
He resigned from the office of President because Bartolomé Miter defeated Derquis supporter and predecessor Justo José de Urquiza in the Battle of Pavón in 1861 , whereby Urquiza had given up despite an even battle and Miter left the presidency on the condition that Miter did not disturb the province of Entre Ríos to rule. Miter became President of Argentina in December after an interim government by Vice President Juan Esteban Pedernera .
Before he became President of Argentina, Derqui was President of the Legislature of the Province of Cordoba and Minister of Justice, Culture and Education under President Justo José de Urquiza.
