Des Arc is a city in Prairie County , Arkansas . In 2000, the county seat of the north Arkansas county had 1933 residents.
history
The first settlers - as far as is known - settled in the area of today's city around 1810, which was officially founded in 1896. The name of the place at a bend in the White River is derived from French and means curve or bend. After the timber and cotton trade initially shaped the city's economy, this has now changed to an agriculture primarily characterized by the cultivation of grain.

Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, Des Arc was inhabited by 1,933 people. The population density was 365.9 people per km ². There were 850 housing units at an average of 160.9 per km². The population was 83.03% White , 14.80% Black or African American , 0.31% Native American , 0.31% Asian , 0.62% said they were racial , and 0.93% said two or more races. 1.29% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of Des Arcs distributed to 783 households out of which 30.0% were living in children under 18 years. 48.3% of households were married, 16.6% had a female head of household without a husband, and 31.7% were not families. 29.4% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 15.8% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 2.93.
