history

The groundbreaking ceremony for the clinic took place in 1995. Half of the construction costs of 25.5 million DM were financed by donations. To this end, in December 1990 the "Child Cancer Follow-up Care - Klausjürgen-Wussow Foundation", today the "German Cancer Child Care Care - Foundation for the Chronically Ill Child" was founded. The rehabilitation clinic was put into operation on November 14, 1997 and employs around 150 people (as of 2016). It has its own school with seven teachers who teach up to 40 students. There is a kindergarten, a music room and a work room as well as a large physiotherapy department with an indoor pool. Thousands of families have already found help in the aftercare clinic. Despite 100 percent capacity utilization, the clinic does not cover its costs: 500,000 euros are missing per year.

German child cancer follow-up care

The German Childhood Cancer Follow-Up Foundation for chronically ill children was founded in December 1990 on the initiative of Klausjürgen Wussow , Carl Herzog von Württemberg and Christiane Herzog , among others . The most important projects are the realization of the aftercare clinic Tannheim and the support of the childcare clinic Berlin-Brandenburg in Bernau near Berlin . Both institutions specialize in the rehabilitation of families with chronically ill children. In addition, for more than 20 years the foundation has provided financial support through its aid fund to families who are in need due to the child's illness. She would like to make such a family-oriented measure possible for all patients who need therapy. Since 2001, the German Childhood Cancer Follow-up has been supporting families who have lost a child with a special concept. The chairmen of the foundation are the managing director in Tannheim Roland Wehrle and the moderator Sonja Faber-Schrecklein . The Chairman of the Board of Trustees is the former Ravensburg District Administrator Kurt Widmaier .
