The German Citizens Register was published as a yearbook by Hermann Püttmann in Darmstadt in 1845 and in Mannheim in 1846 .

The first volume was published by Carl Wilhelm Leske in Darmstadt in December 1844 and was immediately confiscated in Prussia . The second volume came out in Mannheim in the summer of 1846. After that, persecution by the government made it impossible for the series to appear again.

The German Citizens' Book was a democratic organ in which a series of revolutionary-democratic and socialist contributions appeared.

Authors were u. a. Karl Heinzen , Moses Heß , Karl Buchner , Theodor Mügge , Ernst Willkomm , Otto von Wenckstern , Jacob Venedey , Georg Jung , Wolfgang Müller von Königswinter , Friedrich Engels , Wilhelm Wolff , Georg Weerth , Heinrich Bürgers , Ernst Dronke and Ferdinand Freiligrath .
