Devils Thumb (English for "devil's thumb") is a 2777 m high mountain on the border between Alaska (USA) and British Columbia (Canada).
location
The mountain is located 47 km northeast of Petersburg (Alaska) in the Stikine Icecap . It forms one of the highest peaks of the Boundary Ranges , which are part of the Coast Mountains . As a border summit, it is also called Boundary Peak 71 . The north and south flanks are drained via the Baird glacier , the east flank via the LeConte glacier to the Pacific Ocean . The next highest mountain is Mount Burkett, about 10 km north-northeast . Kate's Needle , also a border summit, is 20 km east-southeast.
Ascent history
The first ascent was made by Fred Beckey , Bob Craig and Clifford Schmidtke on August 25, 1946. They reached the mountain from the Flood glacier further east . Their ascent route led over the south wall and the east ridge to the summit.
