Kates Needle is a 3053  m high mountain on the border between Alaska (USA) and British Columbia (Canada).

location

The mountain is located 60 km east-northeast of Petersburg (Alaska) in the Stikine Icecap . It forms one of the highest peaks of the Boundary Ranges , which are part of the Coast Mountains . As a border summit, it is also called Boundary Peak 70 . The northern flank of Kate's Needle is drained to the Stikine River via the Flood Glacier . Below the southeast flank is the nutrient area of ​​the Mud Glacier , which also flows east to the Stikine River. The west and south-west flanks are drained directly to the Pacific Ocean via the LeConte glacier . 20 km west-northwest is the Devils Thumb , another border summit.

Ascent history

The first ascent was made by Fred Beckey , Bob Craig and Clifford Schmidtke on August 6, 1946. The ascent route led from the Flood Glacier over the west ridge to the main summit.
