Dexter Lawrence II (born November 12, 1997 in Wake Forest , North Carolina ) is an American Football Nose Tackle for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football in Clemson .

High school

Lawrence played his entire high school career at Wake Forest High School. During his high school career, he had 28 sacks , 204 tackles , 6 forced fumbles, and 1 interception .

Lawrence was also a formidable basketball player for Wake Forest High School. Basketball was always his first passion at the time.

recruitment

Lawrence was seen as the best prospect from North Carolina. Lawrence considered the Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators , Florida State Seminoles , Alabama Crimson Tide, and NC State Wolfpack, among others . In the end, he signed with Clemson, becoming the highest rated player to ever sign with Clemson. Lawrence almost never ended up in Clemson. On the way to his first unofficial visit, Lawrence and his mother were involved in a car accident. Although no one was injured, Lawrence recalls his mother saying, "We will never go back to Clemson". On another visit a year later, Lawrence decided that Clemson was the right place and signed it.

college

In 2016, Lawrence played 12 games for the Tigers as a defensive tackle . He had 55 tackles and 5 sacks throughout the regular season. The 5 sacks he scored in his freshman year is a Clemson record. Lawrence beat the previous record of 4 sacks from William Perry, Ricky Sapp and Shaq Lawson. Lawrence was later named ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year 2016. Lawrence was part of the Clemson team in the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Alabama. In that game, Clemson defeated Alabama by 35-31 points, and Lawrence scored four tackles. In the College Football Playoff National Championship Game 2018, Lawrence and Clemson won again against Alabama, with 44-16 points. Dexter was banned from the 2019 College Football Playoffs after testing positive for the banned substance ostarine. After the season, Lawrence decided to forego his senior year and stand ready for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Lawrence injured his left leg on his second attempt at the 40-yard dash during the 2019 NFL Combine .

Dexter Lawrence was selected by the New York Giants with the 17th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Giants originally acquired the pick as part of a deal that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns .

Personal

Lawrence is the son of Julia Parker and Dexter Lawrence Sr .. His father was a linebacker at Arkansas State . Lawrence's younger brother, Devon, is a promising running back sophomore at the University of North Carolina .
