The Diamel , known in the lower reaches as Tiamala , is a left southwest branch of Senegal in the Senegalese regions of Matam and Saint-Louis .

geography

It branches off from the main stream between the regional and département prefecture of Matam and the downstream neighboring village of Diamel . 79.5 kilometers further northwest, near the town of Galoya Toucouleur , the village of Ganguel . The main and secondary streams unite again, while the Doué branches off from the main stream at the same point .

Diamel and Senegal enclose an island on which, in addition to a number of village settlements, Nguidjilone is the only town on the bank of the main stream. On the other hand, the town of Thilogne lies on the mainland bank of the Diamel .
