Diane Valkenburg (born August 30, 1984 in Bergschenhoek ) is a Dutch speed skater .

Diane Valkenburg has been competing in the World Cup since the 2007/08 season . Her first race was over 1,500 meters in Salt Lake City , where she finished 15th. In her third race, a 3000 meter race in Calgary , she finished ninth and thus achieved a place in the top ten for the first time. In 2007 she also won the Dutch junior championship in small four-way combat. At the senior championship she won the bronze medal over 1500 meters and was runner- up behind Gretha Smit over 3000 meters .

On December 9, 2007, she won her first team pursuit World Cup. In the following years there were further World Cup victories in the team pursuit. She achieved her first World Cup podium placement in an individual discipline on November 14, 2008. At the World Cup race in Heerenveen , she finished third over 3000 m.

Valkenburg took part in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver for the Netherlands . She took eleventh place over 3000 m and place 6 in the team pursuit. At the 2011 World Championships in Inzell , she came second over 1500 m and in the team pursuit.

In 2012 she became world champion for the first time at the individual World Championships in Heerenveen . She won the team pursuit together with Ireen Wüst and Linda de Vries .

In 2013 she won silver in the small four-way battle at the all- around world championships in Hamar .

Valkenburg lives in Rotterdam and studies sport at the Free University of Amsterdam .
