Dirk Cornelis (Dick) Elffers (born December 9, 1910 in Rotterdam , Netherlands ; † June 17, 1990 in Amsterdam ) was a versatile Dutch artist.

life and work

Elffers studied at the graphic department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. He developed into a versatile artist: he was a draftsman , painter , graphic artist (as, commercial artist ), sculptors , ceramists , book illustrator , type designer and photographer working.

In 1964, his works ( poster designs ) were shown at the documenta III in Kassel in the graphics department . In addition to his activities as an artist, he was a teacher at the art college in 's-Hertogenbosch from 1970 to 1976 . Elffers received the state typography award for his work. Elffer's work is part of the collection of the Joods Historisch Museum ( Museum of the History of Judaism ) in Amsterdam. Elffers also worked as a designer for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The exhibition Golden Age , on the highlights of Dutch graphic design over the past 100 years, which will be shown in 2008 and 2009, pays considerable attention to the work of Elffers. In 2008 this exhibition was shown in Bucharest , Sofia , Budapest , Madrid and the Graphic Design Museum in Breda . Elffers was married to the photographer Emmy Andriesse (1914–1953).
