Dick le Mair (born February 21, 1955 in The Hague ) is a Dutch composer , arranger , music producer and percussionist .

Live and act

Dick le Mair was born in 1955 into a musical family from The Hague. His father, who worked as an organist in the church, soon introduced him to classical music. Dick grew up with Bach , Mozart and Beethoven . After studying the piano for a few years, he began to be more and more interested in drums as a teenager. Inspired by bands like Cream and Pink Floyd , he soon started playing in local rock bands. After school he decided to study percussion at the Rotterdam Conservatory and graduated with the concert exam.

In the following years the percussionist Le Mair worked successfully with the Duo Contemporain and gave numerous concerts worldwide. He is also visiting professor at the Universities of Sydney (Australia) and Caracas (Venezuela). In the Netherlands he mainly works as a composer and arranger for television and radio.

From the late 1990s, the established musician finally delved into his compositional activity. From 1998 onwards, Le Mair himself went public as a solo artist and produced his first own album for EMI entitled Over the Ages , on which he developed his demanding jazzy and meditative sound.

He then devoted himself to an extraordinary project: he musically described his own pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela . The lavishly produced album entitled Impressions of a Pilgrimage was successfully sold in 2004 with the world bestseller On the Camino de Santiago by Paulo Coelho in the Netherlands. As a result, Le Mair was seen with Coelho on Dutch television and gave many concerts with his ensemble. With the elements of Gregorian chant , which he embeds in his jazzy world music sound and records with a large choir and string ensemble, the composer succeeds in creating a work with depth and forcefulness. In 2007 the Cologne label Melodia took on the artist and released the album as a 2- CD box with stereo and DTS sound in German-speaking countries.

In 2008, Le Mair and his ensemble could be seen and heard live in Germany at various music festivals .
