Didn't We Almost Have It All was released worldwide on August 13, 1987. It became a number one hit in the US and also topped the US AC charts. In countries such as Germany (20th place), Switzerland (18th place), Great Britain (14th place) and Sweden , the hit developed into a top 20 success.
The song is 5:07 minutes long and was released as the second single from the Whitney album . On the B-side is the piece Shock Me , a duet with Jermaine Jackson .
For the Love of You was originally supposed to be released, but at the request of the Arista Records label , Didn't We Almost Have It All was released, which was nominated for Best Song at the 1988 Grammy Awards , but lost to Somewhere Out There .
