Paul Mauriat (born March 4, 1925 in Marseille , † November 3, 2006 in Perpignan ) was a French orchestra conductor and composer .
Career
He laid the foundation of his career at 17 years by starting their own orchestra in Paris , with whom he during the Second World War in France played. In 1950 he began recording and touring with Charles Aznavour . His music is in the classic big band sound and can be ascribed to "light music". His best-known piece is the number one hit in the USA in 1968 L'amour est bleu ( Love Is Blue ), composed by André Popp for Vicky Leandros , who wrote this title with the text by Pierre Cour at the Eurovision Song Contest 1967 in Vienna for Luxembourg had presented.
Under the pseudonym Del Roma he wrote the hit Chariot for Petula Clark in 1962/1963 together with Franck Pourcel .
In 1985 Mauriat released 3 albums under the title "Classics in the air" in which he interpreted classical highlights such as Bach's D minor Toccata and Mozart's 40th Symphony in modern, pop music-oriented arrangements.
In 1998 Mauriat ended his career in Osaka, Japan . His orchestra continues to travel and play around the world. Under the Sign of easy-listening - revivals of the 1990s Mauriats plant experienced a second peak.
