Just Whitney… is the fifth studio album by Whitney Houston , released worldwide in November 2002 and in December 2002 in the United States .

Compared to the previous albums, the success was lower, although with number 9 in the United States a higher chart placement was achieved than with the previous album. In Germany the album reached number 16 in the charts. The album was received mixed by critics.

history

Whitney Houston had signed a new deal with Arista Records that should bring her $ 100 million. The upcoming album Just Whitney… was more soul- oriented than its predecessor My Love Is Your Love . It was produced by Kevin Briggs, among others . But her then-husband Bobby Brown and Missy Elliott were also significantly involved in the production. She'd also worked with Rodney Jerkins and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis , but those pieces didn't make it on the album.

criticism

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic.com wrote that the album was not bad musically, although few tracks were remembered. However, it is a bad idea to cover You Light Up My Life when admitting drug issues. It awarded three out of five stars. Robert Hilburn of the Los Angeles Times wrote, “Just Whitney suffers from the sense of career desperation that surrounds Michael Jackson's recent CDs. She and four dozen writers and producers work so hard finding another hit, they lose track of the human qualities that made her music so formidable. “At Metacritic.com the album achieved a rating of 53 out of 100 from eight reviews. In contrast to Houston's other albums, she could n't accept awards for Just Whitney… . Only one nomination for the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards as R & B / Soul Album of the Year, solo was to be booked.
