The adventures of the Chevalier de Recci ( French : Le Chevalier Tempête = Der Chevalier Wirbelwind , East German synchronic title of the German television station The daring adventures of the Chevalier Wirbelwind ) is a French television series from 1967, which takes place around 1630 in France and Italy during the Mantuan War of Succession . The main role of Chevalier Francois de Recci is played by Robert Etcheverry , his West German dubbing voice comes from Uwe Friedrichsen . The French first broadcast took place from October 1, 1967, the West German broadcast on ARD from December 7, 1968 at irregular intervals until April 12, 1969.

The Chevalier Francois de Recci was badly wounded during the siege of La Rochelle and was cared for in the palace of his aunt, the Duchess of Blainville. Since he has recovered to the point of chasing after the young women in the neighborhood, his aunt intends to marry him off. But Francois absolutely wants to fight in the northern Italian fortress of Casal , where his comrades from La Rochelle are and fight against Spanish troops. He escapes his aunt's attempts to marry with a trick and makes his way through the enemy lines to Casal with his servant Guillot.
The local commander Thoiras adheres to the strictest military discipline, since supplies and men are totally exhausted. But for strategic reasons he is not allowed to surrender, otherwise the Spaniards would invade France. Francois makes a failure one night and steals much needed food. Since he acted without orders, he is brought before a court martial and sentenced to death at the urging of Thoiras. Since the location of the fortress is desperate, Thoiras decides to give the Chevalier a chance: As a secret agent with Guillot, he is supposed to break through to the neutral Duke of Savoy and ask him to send a relief army to intimidate the Spaniards. This gives the besieged fortress air until real reinforcements arrive from France.
Disguised as plague sufferers , the Chevalier and Guillot manage to penetrate as far as the Spanish lines. However, they are exposed and have to flee headlong. On their escape, they meet the papal envoy Mazarin , who is on a diplomatic mission to see Cardinal Richelieu in Paris . Mazarin is a great admirer of Richelieu and therefore ready to help the two agents, although this contradicts his neutral diplomatic role. From this point on, the paths of Mazarins and des Chevaliers cross again and again.
When Francois and Guillot are caught by a Croatian robber and his gang, they get to know Count de Sospel and his daughter Isabelle while in captivity. The two break out with their father and daughter and hide in the woods. Francois and Isabelle fall in love, but are separated from each other again. Francois can do his job. But his aunt has not given up on her plan to marry him off. With Mazarin's help, she succeeds in persuading Isabelle, who has since entered a monastery , to return to worldly life and to marry Francois.

Production notes
The series belongs in the context of a number of French adventure television series from the mid-1960s such as B. Les Chevaliers du ciel . Why the series received two German dubbing is unknown. According to Neues Deutschland, the East German broadcast began in August 1978. The West German dubbing was carried out by Studio Hamburg on behalf of German television .
The series is possibly based on the novel of the same name by Jean Tranchant ( Paris 1932).

As far as is known, the series was never repeated on West German television. In August 2018, a two-part German-language DVD edition appeared in the Pidax series classics. The British dubbing The Flashing Blade was edited on DVD in 2001.
