Die Fürstin von Beranien is a German silent film drama from 1918. Directed by Ernst Reicher , his then wife Stella Harf played the title role.

action

Prince Ernst von Beranien has a decree proclaimed, according to which his daughter Elisabeth becomes Crown Princess of his country. Before she wants to fulfill her duties, Elisabeth asks her father to be allowed to take a little break beforehand: She wants to go on vacation as a simple countess in the mountains. Prince Ernst agrees, but gives her the stern, old Countess Elvira Schleierbach-Eulenkopf and her niece Kitty to accompany her on the way to winter sports. In the personable Dr. Heinrich von Wald makes the princess' daughter a pleasant holiday acquaintance, from which more soon develops. When that forest proposed marriage to her, Elisabeth, although also in love, fled head over heels and left, since the man would hardly be an option at home for reasons of class.

Back in Berania, Elisabeth's father dies. Now a husband from high aristocratic circles has to be found as soon as possible. Duke Rudolf von Wittland, her father's former preferred candidate, comes into question. With a heavy heart Elisabeth agrees to marry him. But the military party of Berania does not at all agree with Prince Ernst's decree, according to which a woman should now rule the country. Rather, this party wants to see Prince von Waldstein at the head of the country and therefore, under the leadership of General Arens, instigates an uprising against Elisabeth. With that very prince von Waldstein at their head, the conspirators advance into the prince's palace when the prince sees Elisabeth. Neither of them believe their eyes, that prince is none other than the holiday acquaintance Heinrich von Wald, who, like Princess Elisabeth, arrived incognito at the time.

At that moment he lowers his sword and lets himself be led away without resistance. But Elisabeth sets him free and pardons him. When Prince Heinrich wants to see her again and therefore approaches her on the balcony, her bodyguards misunderstand this approach and shoot him. He dies. Deeply shaken by the death of her great love, Princess Elisabeth now agrees to marry the desired husband chosen for her.
