The hand in the trap (original title: La mano en la trampa ) is an Argentine-Spanish black and white film by the director Leopoldo Torre Nilsson from 1961 with Francisco Rabal , Elsa Daniel and Leonardo Favio in the leading roles. The screenplay by Beatriz Guido and Ricardo Muñoz Suay is based on a novel by Ricardo Muñoz Suay. The film was first shown in May 1961 at the Cannes International Film Festival. It was released in cinemas in the Federal Republic of Germany on April 15, 1966.

After returning from boarding school to the house of her mother and aunt, Laura Lavigne wants to find out the secret that has long surrounded the upper floor of the family's mansion. It is said that a mentally weak illegitimate child of old Lavigne is to be kept hidden there. In reality, this child has long since died. On the other hand, Laura discovers her aunt Ines there, who was abandoned by her respected fiancé Cristobal Archaval twenty years ago and who has buried herself alive in her room for fear of the mockery of the Argentine bourgeoisie . When investigating the exact reasons for the fate of her aunt, Laura uses the help of that very Cristobal Archaval, half out of curiosity, half out of attraction. She even leads him to Ines, who is so excited about it that her heart fails. Laura stays with the man who is furnishing her an apartment in the capital. In her consciousness, her room suddenly becomes Ines'. She is trapped like her aunt.
