The Inselärztin is a television series of the First German Television . The series is set on the island of Mauritius , the first episode aired in January 2018.
concept
The protagonist of the series, the doctor Filipa Wagner ( Anja Knauer ), would like to start a new life in Mauritius and cast off the past. But also in the Indian Ocean she has to face new challenges again and again and show her medical skills under difficult conditions. In addition, she begins a new and difficult relationship with a colleague, which she also does not allow her to relax in private.
Six episodes had aired by February 2020.

Hotel director Kulovits hired the island doctor to offer his guests the best medical care. He doesn't like to see Filipa using the hotel's medical facilities for sick locals too. When an employee of the hotel was critically injured, Filipa met the chief physician Dr. Know Daniel Bucher. As a result, Filipa and Daniel repeatedly fight for the lives of their patients together, for example when a mysterious epidemic breaks out or a serious traffic accident occurs. They not only come closer to each other professionally. Director Kulovits grapples with a vengeful restaurant critic and has to fight a conflict with his son Mike, for whom the father is the culprit for the ruined marriage of his parents and the death of his mother.
Filipa and Daniel are already planning a future together with Daniel's daughter Isabelle, when Daniel's wife Jenny, who was believed to be dead, surprisingly returns after eight years. She has been suffering from amnesia since she had a serious accident on a doctor's mission abroad. Jenny slowly regains her memory in familiar surroundings, but her life is in acute danger from a blood clot in the brain. Filipa has to use all her skills to save her.
After Daniel has apparently decided on Jenny, Filipa leaves Mauritius, but returns to her place of work in episode 5. Here she meets the charming specialist Devin, with whom she begins a relationship. Isabelle is beginning to see Jenny as her mother, but Daniel and Jenny can no longer find each other. Daniel begins to fight for Filipa.

“Despite all the clichés, the island doctor's pilot episode has a pleasant freshness. Not just because the main character is a brilliant woman with antihero traits. But also because despite the luxury hotel backdrop, the series does not want to close its eyes completely to the harsh reality in the country. "
