The Marchesa d'Armiani is a German silent film drama from 1920 with Pola Negri in the title role.
action
The city's chief of police, Dr. Joachim von Raff has ordered a raid on a gambling den. The mother of young Assunta is also arrested. The former begs the powerful civil servant to let grace go and release the elderly lady again. But Raff coolly rejects Assunta. Years later Assunta became a married Marquesa d'Armiani, the wife of a spy. Still driven by a thirst for revenge, Assunta wants to see von Raff lying on the ground and therefore hooks up with his son Lothar.
In fact, she succeeds in making the young man in love with herself. When Lothar realizes that he is only a means to an end and the Marquesa is playing a cruel game with him, he kills himself with a revolver. As luck would have it, von Raff, who had previously not known anything about Lothar's connection with Assunta, ordered a house search of her. Then the two opponents of yore see each other again, and one approaches emotionally. Soon, however, the police chief has to find out that the Marquesa is largely responsible for his son's suicide. Thereupon rushes from Raff to Assunta and strangles her with his own hands.
