Nordsee GmbH is an umbrella marketing organization for tourism as an amalgamation of seven coastal towns, two maritime cities and a shipping company on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony . The company's headquarters are in Wilhelmshaven .

history

The company was founded on June 25th, 1998 after the North Sea - Lower Saxony-Bremen - eV tourism association dissolved in December 1997. Since then, Nordsee GmbH has been marketing the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony as an umbrella brand organization and is committed to attracting new holiday guests by addressing specific target groups.

Since 2001 the Nordsee GmbH , together with the Erlebnis Bremerhaven GmbH , the EWE AG , the "Church in Tourism" of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover and the agency iventos , has been the organizer of the EWE North Sea Run . The run takes place once a year and comprises seven running stages that are spread over eight days. The motto of the run is "Don't stop - run against violence!" Numerous celebrities took part in the EWE North Sea Run.

In 2008 the Nordsee GmbH organized the North Sea Tourism Day together with the Tourismusverband Nordsee eV for the first time . The event has been held annually since 2010. For the fourth North Sea Tourism Day in January 2012, 180 industry representatives from all over northern Germany came together in Wilhelmshaven .

The Nordsee GmbH has been awarded the brand "the North Sea" and provides information on activities and experiences at the Lower Saxony North Sea coast. It is financed by the shareholders' annual contributions and sponsorship money.

As a marketing company for holiday destinations, Nordsee GmbH makes guests in the region aware of the possibilities. The target group includes young people, couples without school-age children, active vacationers and people over 50. Topics are the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea , maritime experiences and regional culture. In addition, beach and bathing holidays, camping / caravanning, health, events and time out are topics of marketing.

Marketing and PR activities include the website, various social media channels, advertising, prospectus mailing, telephone vacation advice via hotline, the EWE North Sea Run and press work.

The North Sea coast of Lower Saxony records an average of around 24 million overnight stays per year. Most of the vacationers in the region come from North Rhine-Westphalia , Lower Saxony, Hesse , Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg . Many international guests come increasingly from Switzerland and Austria .

The economic importance of tourism on the coast is high, as the gross turnover from tourism amounts to 2.8 billion euros. This results in a tourist income contribution totaling 1.4 billion euros.
