occupation

The streets of Harlem (Original title: Paid in Full ) is an American gangster film from 2002 by Roc-a-Fella Films . Directed by Charles Stone III and written by Matthew Cirulnick and Thulani Davis .

The title of the film comes from the song Paid in Full of the album of the same name from 1987 by Eric B. & Rakim . The song is dedicated to the three former drug dealers named Azie Faison , Rich Porter and Alpo Martinez , who became famous in Harlem in the mid-1980s . The movie characters Ace, Mitch and Rico are based on these three drug dealers.

action

Between a luxurious lifestyle and the hunt for a quick buck, the day laborer Ace enters the drug business after his best friend and drug dealer, Mitch, was sentenced to prison. After finding an exclusive source of the best Colombian coke and selling it at a reduced price, he quickly takes control of the neighborhood. Ace, Mitch, and his prison friend, Rico, become influential figures on the streets of Harlem.

background

Among other things, the film was known in Brazil under the title Ouro Branco (Brazilian: white gold), or in Greece as Kokaini (Greek: cocaine). The film was released on DVD in Germany on August 26, 2004 .

reception

The lexicon of international films writes that the “ambitiously staged thriller based on authentic characters” depicts “drug trafficking as a lucrative line of business that enables the American dream to be fulfilled”. The film is said to be "solid and detailed" and provokes "the [reservations about] pathetic [n] portrayal of the ghetto gangster".
