criticism

In its issue of July 15, 1927, Vienna's Neue Freie Presse reported on the occasion of the Austrian premiere: “Jane Eyre, the touchingly admired darling of a lost era, and Lord Rochester, the interesting hero of pre-March fluffy dreams, celebrate, cool library tranquility, in the film that Festival of romantic resurrection. And strange! As far as the time seems to us that once gave life to these literary creatures, they are now as possible - modernized - in the picture play. [...] Olaf Fönss lends the Lord his manfully beautiful appearance, which is modern and yet somehow touches upon the nobility and grace ideal of a bygone era. Evelyn Holt plays the orphan Jane with girlish tenderness, simply and trusting the persuasiveness of her pretty, childlike, touching profile. Adele Sandrock creates a funny batch ... "

Paimann's film lists summed up: “The subject is, even if it doesn't quite do justice to the accusatory novels, but it is quite exciting and audience-effective, the presentation is very good and the photography clean. The presentation is accordingly in the interior, some exterior shots with models are not entirely successful. "
