The Dieffenbacher Group , based in Eppingen in the Heilbronn district in Baden-Württemberg, is a family company founded in 1873 in the field of mechanical and plant engineering that develops and manufactures press systems and complete production systems for the wood, automotive, aviation and recycling industries. Dieffenbacher employs over 1,600 people and operates at 16 production, service and sales locations worldwide.

history

Jakob Dieffenbacher founded the Dieffenbacher company in 1873.
Jakob Dieffenbacher founded the Dieffenbacher company in 1873.

In 1873, master locksmith Jakob Dieffenbacher founded the Dieffenbacher company in Eppingen at the age of 26. The small business carried out various locksmith work as well as repairs of all kinds - especially for machines that were used in agriculture.

Around 1900, the company also manufactured stoves, ovens and cash registers, which can still be found in North Baden banks today.

After their master craftsman examination, the two sons and master locksmiths Wilhelm and Friedrich Dieffenbacher joined the family business in the second generation. Wilhelm and Friedrich handed over the locksmith's shop in Eppinger's old town in 1910 to brother Heinrich Dieffenbacher. At the same time, a factory was built in Heilbronner Strasse, which Wilhelm and Friedrich managed. The company was renamed the J. Dieffenbacher-Söhne mechanical engineering institute. At that time, the product range changed to industrial products. The focus of production was on hydraulic edible oil , fruit and wine presses . With increasing machine production, the mechanical engineering institute became the machine factory in 1914.

After the end of the First World War , Dieffenbacher expanded the oil press and oil system business. In the mid-1920s, Dieffenbacher built the first hydraulic presses for Bakelite compounds for the plastics industry.

After the Second World War , the machine factory specialized in heavy engineering. In 1949 Dieffenbacher built its first chipboard press .

In 1952 Albert and Gerhard Dieffenbacher joined the company and took over the management in the third generation. In the 1950s, the company gained a foothold in the wood industry and, in addition to chipboard presses, now also developed and manufactured veneer presses. In addition, plywood plants and decor plants for the finishing of chipboard were added to the product range. In 1956 Dieffenbacher received its first export orders from other European countries.

In the 1960s exports expanded rapidly beyond Europe and beyond. a. to the USA, Brazil, Mexico and other countries. Dieffenbacher also developed spotting presses with swiveling ram plate and extendable table, a forerunner of today's tryout press. From 1960 onwards, the family company built Bakelite presses and thermoplastic injection molding machine presses for processing fiber-reinforced polyester plastics, and in the 1970s it developed into the market leader in this field.

In the mid-1970s, Dieffenbacher constructed a continuously operating cold prepress, which was a big step towards the continuous production of chipboard for the company.

In 1980 Wolf-Gerd Dieffenbacher (* 1951) joined the company in the fourth generation. He developed the company into an international manufacturer of complete systems. Dieffenbacher grew through a series of start-ups, company takeovers and the expansion of subsidiaries, sales offices and service locations.

In 1999 Dieffenbacher expanded the area of forming technology / plastics by developing the direct process for long-fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFT-D).

The company has been producing machines for generating electricity and heat from wood waste and for drying sludge from bioethanol production since 2010 . In 2011 Dieffenbacher received the AVK Innovation Award for the development of the direct process for the production of SMC components. The company also launched the HP-RTM system on the market. In 2014 Dieffenbacher founded the recycling division . The focus in this business area is on the production of complete systems for processing various residues. Another milestone followed in the wood sector in 2015. Dieffenbacher introduced the CPS +, the new continuous press for the production of wood-based panels, a further development of the successful press system CPS.

Christian Dieffenbacher joined the management team in 2016 after having worked as a consultant for two years. The company heralded the start of the fifth generation. In the same year Dieffenbacher developed the Tailored Blank Line, a solution for the large-scale production of locally reinforced thermoplastic components, which consists of the Fibercon and Fiberforge - the fastest tape laying system in the world to date.

Business areas

The business areas of the Dieffenbacher Group are essentially divided into three areas:

Wood business area (wood-based panel technology)

The Dieffenbacher Wood Business Unit plans and manufactures complete systems for the wood-based panel industry. Manufactured equipment for the production of clamping plates, medium-density wood fiber board (MDF), high density fiberboard (HDF), OSB (OSB / OSL) and laminated veneer lumber (LVL). Dieffenbacher's scope of supply ranges from the shredding of the wood supplied to the pressing of the panels to their surface refinement . A complete system for the production of wood-based panels typically includes energy generation systems, shredding machines, dryers, sieves and classifiers, gluing, control, the molding line, cycle-based or continuous press systems, coating systems, finishing, storage and process control systems as well as online maintenance systems. Aftersales service and system modernization are also part of the range of services offered by the Wood business unit.

Business field composites (forming technology)

The Composites division develops methods, processes and fully automated production systems for the manufacture of fiber-reinforced components. Production processes include Long Fiber Thermoplastic Molding (LFT), Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) and High-Pressure Resin Transfer Molding (HP-RTM). For the economical large-scale production of carbon components using the HP-RTM process, Dieffenbacher manufactures z. B. fully automated turnkey production lines that include a preform center. In addition, production lines for hybrid components and systems for the wet pressing process are manufactured. Dieffenbacher supplies all the components for turnkey systems: from the hydraulic press and the entire automation to components for the resource-saving production of semi-finished products using the direct process. The modernization of systems and system components is also part of the composites business area. Dieffenbacher plays a leading role in the further development and combination of composite processes. To this end, the company works closely with independent research institutes and realizes joint research projects with customers.

Recycling business area

The Dieffenbacher Recycling division develops and produces complete recycling systems for the mechanical and biological processing of industrial and household waste for the recovery of secondary raw materials or energy. For the processing of waste wood, for example, Dieffenbacher develops plant concepts ranging from shredding, drying, sieving and sifting to burner systems and extraction technology.
