Dieter Beckmann
Dieter Beckmann (born November 1, 1937 in Dortmund ; † April 20, 2012 ) was a German psychologist .
Career
During the Second World War , the Ruhr area was the target of violent Allied bombing attacks . Beckmann therefore spent part of his school days in Zaisenhausen , Koserow and Parchim as part of the Kinderland transfer . In 1959 he graduated from high school in Dortmund.
He then studied psychology at the Universities of Freiburg and Hamburg . After receiving his diploma (Dipl.-Psych.) In 1964, he worked with Horst-Eberhard Richter at the Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine in Giessen . In 1968 he received his doctorate. phil. with the dissertation Investigations on the formation of clinical judgments in psychoanalytic interviews . In 1970 the habilitation followed with the thesis The Gießener Personality Inventory (GPI) . In 1972 he was appointed to the first German chair for medical psychology at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , which he held until his retirement in March 2006. His successor at the chair for medical psychology has been Renate Deinzer since 2007 . Together with Richter and Brähler , he developed the Giessen test , which combines psychoanalysis and empirical psychology. He was editor of the journal Psychotherapie Psychosomatik Medical Psychology and co-founder of the journal for medical psychology .
His main research areas included psychodermatology, psychological aspects of environmental medicine, health psychology , test construction, cultural history, stress research and stress management , corporate health promotion , developmental psychopathology, attachment research and temperament research.
Beckmann was a hobby gardener. With his daughter Barbara, he wrote several books and other publications on herbs.
Awards
Together with Horst-Eberhard Richter , Beckmann was awarded the research prize of the Swiss Society for Psychosomatic Medicine in 1970.
