Dieter Berndt
Dieter Hermann Erich Berndt (born June 6, 1938 in Stettin ; † December 27, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German packaging technician , university professor and company founder. He was the founder of the packaging technology course at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin (formerly the Technical University of Berlin). He was often referred to as the “packaging pope”.
Life
Dieter Berndt initially trained as a locksmith . He then studied mechanical engineering and initially went to Beiersdorf in Hamburg as a designer for packaging machines . He then worked for the company Savyon / Frukogold as head of a planning group in Ghana . For another five years he held a managerial position at what was then Bosch Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH. In 1972 he was appointed to what was then TFH Berlin. In 1988/89 the packaging technology course was opened at the TFH.
In addition to research and teaching at the university, he also devoted himself to extensive social tasks: in 1990 he initiated the “Ökotisch” discussion group in Berlin, he was the initiator of the German Packaging Institute eV Berlin and President of the Association of German Packaging Engineers. He also initiated the German Packaging Museum, which is located in Heidelberg. In 1993 he founded the group of companies specializing in packaging for business solutions in the industrial and branding sector, Berndt + Partner, which today operates internationally with three independent companies "Creality", "Consultants" and "Communications".
From 2004 to 2008 Berndt was chairman of the "Christian-Peter-Beuth-Gesellschaft" (CPBG), a funding company of the Beuth University of Berlin. The company awards the Christian Peter Beuth Prize, among other things.
Dieter Berndt Prize
The German Packaging Institute has been awarding the Dieter Berndt Prize since 2015. The award is intended to receive the legacy of Dieter Berndt. It honors protagonists from business and society who initiate, carry and support important and sustainable developments as well as preserve and protect crucial values and achievements. The first winners were Klaus Töpfer (2015) and Claus Hipp (2017)
