Life

Dieter Burmester was born in Austria, but moved to Germany with his parents when he was six months old . He grew up in Lüchow . He did an apprenticeship as a radio and television technician and did his military service with the Federal Border Police (BGS). From 1968 he studied electrical engineering and communications engineering in Berlin. After completing his studies, he founded an engineering office and developed medical measuring devices and computer interfaces.

Burmester was a passionate musician , and even before his studies he played full-time as bassist and singer in the beat band The Echos [ sic !], Later on tours under the name Some Folks . Even after his studies, he played concerts and took part in various band projects. From 1999 to 2007 he played with his band Past Perfect . He also collected guitars , composed and made music recordings in his private, professionally equipped studio.

Burmester's interest in music moved from the development of medical measuring devices to audio electronics: after an unsuccessful search for a suitable replacement for his defective hi-fi system, he converted one of his medical precision measuring devices into a preamplifier, the 777 prototype, in July 1977 . This preamplifier, continuously developed, is still the core element of its products and the model for the type designation of the following components (made up of the year 77 and the month 7).

In 1978 he founded in Berlin-Schöneberg the Burmester Audio Systems GmbH , the rapidly to the top of the German high-end sat -Industrie. His inventions and further developments include:

  • 1980: first preamplifier with plug-in modules for adapting to different signal sources

  • 1987: remote-controlled volume control via a relay circuit
  • 1991: CD belt drive
  • 1994: Complete solution for cleaning the power supply
  • 1995: Loudspeaker system with free choice between active and passive signal crossover

Dieter Burmester "shaped, together with a golden generation of audiophile colleagues, a scene, an attitude towards life and ... a veritable branch of fine, elite manufacturers".

In addition to the audio systems, the company also offers sound systems for high-quality vehicles such as the Bugatti Veyron , the Porsche Panamera or the Mercedes Maybach through Burmester Automotive .
