Diuturni temporis

Diuturni temporis ("a long time") is an encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. about praying the rosary . It was published on September 5, 1898.

In this very brief encyclical, the Pope emphasizes the importance of his previous Marian encyclicals ( Supremi apostolatus officio from 1883, Superiore anno from 1884, Octobri mense from 1891, Magnae Dei matris from 1892, Laetitiae sanctae from 1893, Iucunda semper expectatione from 1894, Fidentem piumque animum from 1896 and Augustissimae virginis mariae from 1897).

Looking back on a long time since his first encyclical on the rosary in 1883, the 15-year anniversary of which the Pope commemorates the day of its appearance, the emphasis on the importance of the rosary is still of great value.

Shortly before the beginning of October, Leo XIII. towards the coming rosary month in which the rosary should be prayed with great zeal. Diurni temporis is the last encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. about the rosary; it was later followed by the apostolic letter Parta humano generi , which deals with the rosary as protection against heresies .
