Iucunda semper expectatione (Always with joyful expectation) is an encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. It was published on September 8, 1894 and is subtitled: "The Rosary as Meditation and Prayer".

Rosary month and rosary prayer

  • "It is always associated with a joyful expectation", ... so writes the Pope and looks with hope to the coming October as the month of the rosary. He explains again the reasons that led him to exhortation over praying the rosary.
  • He implores the intercession of Mary, the Mother of God, and declares that praying the rosary is the appropriate means to change the fateful state of church and society .
  • The contemplation and meditation should be repeated and continuous. It is important not to let up in intensity so that the influence of charity does not wane.
  • Indulgence and forgiveness, but also support in overcoming the "evil in this world", he continues, are guaranteed by the constant repetition of the rosary.

The rosary cycles

Each of these "rosary cycles" is closely related to the previous encyclicals, they build on and complement each other, up to this point the Pope had dedicated the following encyclicals to the rosary:
