Aeterni patris

The encyclical Aeterni patris Pope Leo XIII. of August 4, 1879 , the "false" philosophy, which is the origin of private as well as social evils, opposed the "healthy" philosophy, which prepares faith, proves its assumption to be reasonable, allows it to be grasped deeper and defends it. Especially Leo XIII. on the philosophy of the Holy Doctor of the Church Thomas Aquinas , who took up the heritage of the fathers and the philosophy of antiquity and permeated them spiritually. The Church gives him the primacy of teaching. The encyclical gave a strong impetus to neo-scholasticism .
