Magni nobis gaudi (With great joy) is an encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. which he published on March 7, 1889 for the opening of the Catholic University of America .

Authorization to set up

With the Apostolic Letter "Quod im novissimo conventu" of April 10, 1887 Pope Leo XIII. approved the establishment of the Catholic University of America (USA) . He especially emphasizes the guidelines according to the papal letters: In this university the sciences of theology and philosophy are to be taught in accordance with the divine faith .

At the opening

With this encyclical on the occasion of the university opening, he addresses the Archbishop and the Bishops of the USA and congratulates the episcopate “with great joy” on this magnificent achievement. It is also a great pleasure for him to see that the preservation of the Catholic religion and the interests of the dioceses are represented with this school facility. He submits some rules of conduct and doctrine and exhorts the correct execution of all canonical rights and duties, but at the same time approves the laws and regulations presented by the rector of the university Bishop John Keane.
