Etsi cunctas

Etsi cunctas is an encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. which he published on December 21, 1888 as a cover letter to the gifts sent to Ireland. With this encyclical he addresses the bishops in Ireland.

Perseverance of the Irish

With the subtitle "On the Church of Ireland " he addresses the faithful Catholics of Ireland and extols their steadfastness. The Pope recalls the decrees he has sent and expresses his joy that Irish Catholics have successfully fought against the threats and evil in society.

Testimony of goodwill

Leo XIII. sends the Irish several valuable gifts as an expression of goodwill and gratitude: vestments, vessels and other sacred gifts. These, he writes, are to be used for worship in the cathedral church in order to improve the beauty of the place of worship . In conclusion, he expressed his confidence in the Irish Catholics and placed them under the protection of the Pope.
