Life
After leaving school, Dieter Graupner trained as a bricklayer and tiler with a skilled worker qualification from 1954 to 1956 . From 1960 to 1964 he studied at the College of Applied Arts in Heiligendamm, specializing in building ceramics. In 1964 he became a member of the “Kunst am Bau” production cooperative for visual artists (which he remained until 1999) and a member of the Association of Visual Artists .
His works can be found in public spaces in Dresden, Cottbus , Halle , Berlin and Jena . During the reconstruction of the Dresden Frauenkirche, he worked with other sculptors to restore the sculptures and as a restorer. Over a period of five decades he worked on building-related art and staged the laws of design and material in the parable of color and light. His work during the GDR era did not only refer to the big cities like Dresden, Berlin and Cottbus; his works can also be found in smaller towns such as Merseburg or Ilmenau . Murals, fountains, groups of figures and reliefs made of stoneware, concrete and ceramics can be found in public spaces. At the beginning of the 1990s he turned to gouache painting and developed a diverse color and design effect when looking at the various picture squares.
