Egmar Ponndorf

Egmar Ponndorf (born October 1, 1929 in Dresden ; † January 1, 2015 ) was a German stone sculptor .

life and work

After attending the Musisches Gymnasium in Leipzig , Ponndorf trained as a stone sculptor between 1946 and 1948. During his apprenticeship and then until 1960 he worked for Werner Hempel in the preservation of monuments . From 1948 to 1959, Ponndorf participated in the reconstruction of the Dresden Zwinger and the Catholic Court Church . From 1952 to 1955 Ponndorf was a trainee with Walter Arnold and Hans Steger at the Dresden University of Fine Arts , plastic department. In 1956 Ponndorf acquired the title of master stone sculptor.

Between 1960 and 2000 Ponndorf was a member of the Kunst am Bau production cooperative , from 1965 a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR and from 1990 a member of the Saxon Artists' Association.

In 1964 Ponndorf was given a teaching position at the University of Fine Arts in Dresden, plastic department. From 1966 he was responsible for setting up a restoration workshop in Potsdam- Sanssouci , which he managed until 1968.

From 1991 to 1997 Ponndorf was the artistic director of the sculpting work in the reconstruction of the Dresden residential palace .

In addition to his work as a sculptor, Ponndorf also created paintings.

Private

Ponndorf had been married since 1956 and was an enthusiastic mountaineer until the beginning of the 1990s (since 1948 a member of TC Bergfreunde 16). As such, he was the rope companion of pastor Roland Adolph, who was murdered in 1997 .

Ponndorf died on January 1, 2015 after a serious illness.

  • 1974: 28 meter long and four meter wide concrete relief on the history of the labor movement at the teacher's house in Halle (Saale) together with Rudolf Sitte , Vinzenz Wanitschke and Hans Peschel
  • until 1980: Implementation and restoration of the north portal of the Chemnitz Castle Church
