- Bonn / Germany : car - drivers who take on their way children younger than 12 are, they must in future child seats accommodate. This obligation does not apply if the child is over 150 cm tall.
- Moscow / Russia : Dimitri Muratow and colleagues found the Novaja Gazeta , one of the first newspapers in Russia to focus on investigative journalism .

- New York / United States : The United Nations admit the Balkan state Macedonia as a member. On the same day, the majority of the states of the European Union recognize the country as a sovereign state . To distinguish it from the Greek region of Makedonia , the country has to use the name “Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia” ( German “Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” ).

- Boksburg / South Africa : The supporter of the African resistance movement Janusz Waluś shoots Chris Hani , the chief of staff of the formerly armed subgroup of the African National Congress , in front of his house. Waluś became radicalized because of the influx of black people into his hometown.

- New York / United States : The Security Council of the United Nations decides to reduce the violence in the Bosnian war , the Resolution 819 , which is a UN safe area around Srebrenica provides. The army of the Republika Srpska is fighting for the integration of the city, which belongs to Bosnia and Herzegovina , into a Serb-dominated state .
Monday April 19, 1993
- Waco / United States : On the 51st day of the siege of Mount Carmel, a property of the " Branch Davidians " religious community , the FBI security service tried to use the tear gas CS to drive the besieged out of their accommodations with the help of pioneer tanks. The representatives of the religious community, a split from the Seventh-day Adventists , then set a fire on the premises. In the end, 76 people died as a result of the fire and gunshot wounds.

- Washington, DC / United States : As a national memorial to the victims of the Shoah , the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on the Mall opened.

- Stuttgart / Germany : The Federal Garden Show (BUGA), which is also the International Horticultural Exhibition this year , opens.

- Constance / Germany : The 9 m high and 18 t heavy statue of the Imperia by the sculptor Peter Lenk is set up in the harbor. It is a satirical reminder of the Council of Constance and portrays a luscious courtesan .
- London / United Kingdom : The NatWest Tower , at 183 m the tallest building in the City of London , is badly damaged in a terrorist attack by the Provisional Irish Republican Army . One person is killed and 50 are injured.
- New Delhi / India : The 73rd Amendment to the Constitution , adopted by Parliament in 1992 , comes into force and elevates village self-government to constitutional status based on the principle of the Panchayati Raj . The new legal situation paves u. a. the way to a decentralization of the Indian education system .

- Asmara / Ethiopia : In the referendum on the independence of the Eritrean part of Ethiopia, over a million voters are in favor of Eritrean independence and around 2,000 are against. The government of Ethiopia approved the voting.
- Moscow / Russia : The referendum on the government's economic policy pushed through by President Boris Yeltsin in the wake of the constitutional crisis is adopted with 58.1% of the votes. While the majority of parliamentarians show aversion to market economy reforms, Yeltsin praises them as an opportunity for Russia.

- Cape Canaveral / United States : The space shuttle Columbia takes off into space on its STS-55 mission . In the Spacelab u. a. the course of an intravenous injection under the conditions of weightlessness can be researched. It is the second Spacelab mission with German participation.
Tuesday April 27, 1993
- Gulf of Guinea : The Zambian national soccer team travels by plane to a qualifying game for the 1994 World Cup in Senegal . The machine explodes over the Gulf of Guinea. 18 players and the coach die.
- Yerevan / Armenia : The National Bank is elevated to the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia by law .
Friday April 30th 1993
- Hamburg / Germany : While changing sides in a quarter-final match of the WTA tennis tournament , the mentally disturbed Günter Parche stabbed the player Monica Seles in the back with a knife. His admiration for the Seles opponent Steffi Graf should be the motive of the deed.
- Meyrin / Switzerland : The research institute CERN has announced that it will make the World Wide Web , which is used to distribute electronic hypertext documents via the Internet , accessible to everyone.
