Dieter Pohlers

Dieter Pohlers (born April 8, 1934 in Plauen , † April 1984 in Berlin ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

life and work

Dieter Pohlers initially completed an apprenticeship as a textile draftsman from 1948 to 1951 and a preparatory course at the Dresden Art Academy from 1952 to 1955 . From 1956 to 1961 he studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Berlin with Ernst Schumacher , whose master class he became.

In the graphic workshop in Berlin, which he founded in 1962 and directed by Otto Mertens, a number of artist books by Pohlers appeared alongside works by Walter Stöhrer , Manfred Bluth , Kurt Bartel , Carl Otto Bartning and others, mostly in very small signed editions of 15 to 30 as hand press prints Copies.

In 1965 Dieter Pohlers also worked as a stage and costume designer at the Franconian Theater . In 1970 the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne bought two of his works. In the 1970s, Pohlers often worked abroad, regularly in the Atelier du Rocher of the Swedish collector and art patron Theodor Ahrenberg in Chexbres , Switzerland, as well as during longer stays in Spain, France, Sweden and in 1980 in America.
