Dieter Reiher

Dieter Reiher (born April 17, 1933 in Breslau ) is a German Protestant theologian and educator as well as a former politician during the GDR transition period.

Life

Reiher attended various schools in Liegnitz / Silesia from 1939 to 1945. After evacuating or fleeing from Silesia from the Soviet army, he came to Erfurt, where he graduated from high school in 1951. From 1951 to 1959 he studied theology in Halle and Basel . Here he completed his vicariate and received his ordination .

In 1972, Reiher received his doctorate from the Theological Faculty of Leipzig University . In 1998, Reiher retired. Since then he has lived near Berlin.

In 1961 he married Edith Meisel. From this marriage there were four daughters.

Act

From 1960 to 1966, Reiher was pastor in Großkorbetha and Schkortleben . From 1966 to 1977 he worked as a consultant for the church education chamber in Berlin-Brandenburg and as a lecturer in catechetics and pedagogy at the Brandenburg seminary . After 1977 he headed the church education chamber in Berlin-Brandenburg until 1990 and was part-time chairman of the commission for church work with children and confirmands of the Federation of Protestant Churches in the GDR. From 1973 to 1995 he was part-time editor of the magazine “ Die Christenlehre ”.

For decades, Reiher determined the development and theory formation of catechetics and community education in the GDR through his publications and work .

At the time of the fall of the Wall, he was initially a church advisor at the “technical discussion” with representatives of GDR popular education. In cooperation with the Religious Education Institute of the Theological Faculty of the University of Leipzig, he was involved in the publication of the first religious books for the new federal states.

In 1990 he was State Secretary for Education in the Ministry of Education and Science of the last GDR government . Until 1991 he headed the joint institution of the new federal states for education and science, which had the task of transferring the educational policy tasks to the new state ministries. Then Reiher was senior consistorial councilor and founder of the Evangelical Education Center Brandenburg an der Havel until 1997 .

Reiher is the author of the village chronicle of Hönow (2012).

Honors

The theological faculty of the University of Leipzig awarded Reiher an honorary doctorate on June 29, 2006 , in particular for his scientific work in the field of religious education.
