Dieter Schloten (born August 26, 1939 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After graduating from high school, Schloten studied history and Protestant theology in Göttingen , Bonn and Bochum . After the first state exam 1968, he was 1969 Studienreferendar and then Studienrat at a total school in Mülheim an der Ruhr. From 1978 he was the head of the comprehensive school in Essen .

Dieter Schloten has been a member of the SPD since 1969 . After serving on the Mülheim city ​​council from 1975 to 1990 , he was a member of the German Bundestag from 1990 to 2002 - as a direct candidate for the Mülheim constituency - where he became a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee . Most recently he headed the German delegation in the Interparliamentary Union . From 1995 he represented Germany in the parliamentary assemblies of the Council of Europe and the Western European Union .
