Life & Career

Didi Ackerl was born on May 6, 1965; He completed his school education from 1979 to 1984 at the BULME Graz-Gösting , from which he graduated with an engineering degree in the field of mechanical engineering. He then began studying business administration at the University of Graz in 1985 , which he completed in 1992 with a master's degree. During this time he was deeply rooted in the Austrian trampoline sports since many years and took, among others, in 1989 at the European Trampoline Championships in Copenhagen , where he 29th place in the individual competition and the 14th place in synchronized diving with his partner Dietmar Baumann reached. Over the years he was also three times Austrian champion in trampoline gymnastics (1995, 1996 and 1997).

After his last championship title, Ackerl largely withdrew from active competitive sport and no longer competed in important competitions, but rather remained in the Graz trampoline scene as a technical trainer. It wasn't until about five years later that he dared to make a comeback when he competed in the 2002 state championships in his hometown of Graz. Although he was connected to work and family and had torn an ankle ligament in March 2002, he tried to build on his old strength. In the end, the now 37-year-old finished seventh in the final ranking and largely withdrew from active competitive sport. For many years he was the unofficial Austrian difficulty record holder and was only replaced in 2007 by one of his protégés, then 30-year-old Dieter Hayn , and then 13-year-old Martin Spatt from Steyr , who won a new Austrian with 11.5 points in the freestyle Set a record. Ackerl succeeded in an exercise in the late 1980s that, according to the scoring rules at the time, was worth just over 10 points, but today it would bring 12.0 to 12.5 points of difficulty.

In addition to his work as a trampoline gymnast, when he belonged to the Trampoline and Freestyle Club Graz , TFC Graz for short , after graduating, he worked full-time in the IT industry, in which he is still active today. After working as a freelance designer for the company Elema Planning and Construction von Maschinen Ges.mbH in Graz from 1988 to 1990 alongside his studies, he worked as an IT organizer at Steyr Daimler Puch from October 1993 to August 1996 , to be more precise at the remaining Steyr-Daimler-Puch Fahrzeugtechnik AG & Co. KG (SFT) . He then took over from September 1996 to January 1997, the management of the IT department at Breitenfeld Edelstahl AG in Mitterdorf im Mürztal , before the company in March 1997 Siemens Nixdorf at its Vienna joined as a sales representative and he was only five months later in July 1997 left again. Ackerl then joined Magna Heavy Stamping in August 1997 , a branch of Magna Metalforming AG (part of Magna International ), based in Albersdorf near Gleisdorf . Here he worked as a logistics and IT manager until November 2000, before he took over the management of IT at the FH Joanneum in Graz in December 2000 and still works in this position today (as of September 2017). In between, Ackerl was self-employed as an IT consultant with his own company from June 2004 to September 2005.

Dietmar Ackerl is married to Astrid and has three children, Philipp, Fabian and Kathrin.
