Dietmar Preißler (born June 24, 1956 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) is a German historian. He is the first collection director of the House of History Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Career

After graduating from Parler-Gymnasium Schwäbisch Gmünd and completing his military service, he studied history, political science, sports science and law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

In 1988 Preißler received his doctorate in Heidelberg with the thesis "Early anti-Semitism in the Free City of Frankfurt and in the Grand Duchy of Hesse (1810 to 1860)".

Preißler worked for the Institute for Political Science at the University of Heidelberg and the State Center for Political Education in Baden-Württemberg . After that, in 1988 he became a research assistant at the House of History Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Since 1990 he has been the "Head of Collections" department, and from 2002 director of collections at the House of History. In 2014, he presented a basic collection concept that for the first time summarizes museum-theoretical and practical aspects of collecting from contemporary history.

From 2001 to 2008 he was managing director of the network media libraries.

Since 1990 he has been a member of the selection committee at the Institute for the Promotion of Talented Students of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation .

project Manager

As a project manager, Preißler developed the concept for the “ Path of Democracy ”, which opened in Bonn in 2004 .

He was responsible for two projects on the constitutional history of the Federal Republic of Germany :

The internet project “Observations - The Parliamentary Council 1948/49” (2008) and the permanent exhibition “Our Basic Law” in the Federal Council building in Bonn (2016).

Working group member

Since 1996 he has been a member of the documentation specialist group in the German Museum Association , for which in 2012 he prepared the position paper on copyright law "Making cultural heritage visible on the Internet - museum objects and copyright law".

As a member of the “ Think Tanks - Cultural Memory Digital” of the German Digital Library, he deals with the legal framework for the “as free as possible” access of culture and knowledge via the Internet.

Lecturer

Preißler held courses on constitutional history , left- wing terrorism and museology at the universities of Greifswald , Düsseldorf and Bonn .

Most recently, he was a lecturer at the history seminar of Michael Kißener's chair at the University of Mainz .

Since 2018 in the scientific advisory board of the "Landshut" project , which accompanies the Dornier Museum in Friedrichshafen in the development and implementation of the exhibition about the hijacking of the aircraft "Landshut" .
