On June 15, 950 Dietrich gave the town of Egmond a church made of stone. Presumably on the occasion of the consecration of this church, he donated the Egmond Gospel Book from the 9th century , which he had acquired around 975 and which is now regarded as one of the most important manuscripts of the High Middle Ages in the Netherlands. The work contains all four Gospels, two miniatures depicting Dietrich and Hildegard, which were added on Dietrich's instructions. Some historians assume that these miniatures were made by their son Egbert. The manuscript is now in the Royal Dutch Library.

After the death of his father-in-law († March 27, 965) Dietrich was the guardian of his nephew Arnulf II of Flanders . In the same year he conquered Ghent Castle and then kept the county of Ghent in his possession until his death. On August 25, 985 he received from King Otto III. Fiefs on the lower Meuse , the Kennemerland and the island of Texel . Dietrich, Hildegard and their children Arnulf and Herlinde were buried in the Egmond monastery . Their graves were destroyed in the uprising of the Geusen in 1573 .
