Dileep Rao

Dileep Rao (born July 29, 1973 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor.

Life

Dileep Rao was born in Los Angeles, California to Indian parents. His father was an engineer from the Indian state of Maharashtra , and his mother was a physicist. The family moved frequently due to work, as a result of which Rao had already lived in more than 20 countries, including Saudi Arabia , by the age of 8 .

Always fascinated by the natural sciences, Rao later began studying medicine at the University of California, San Diego . There he also took an acting course, which aroused his interest in the theater. While attending the La Jolla Playhouse Summer Conservatory , he worked with Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro . This was followed by engagements in numerous theaters, including roles in plays by Charles Busch and Charles L. Mee .

After guest appearances in the television series Standoff and Brothers & Sisters , his first major role followed in 2009 as fortune teller Rham Jas in Sam Raimi's horror film Drag Me to Hell . He became known to a larger audience for his supporting roles in James Cameron's Avatar - Departure to Pandora and Christopher Nolan's Inception .
