Disodium tetrasulfide is an inorganic chemical compound of sodium from the group of sulfides .
Extraction and presentation
Disodium tetrasulfide can be obtained by reacting sodium sulfide or disodium disulfide with sulfur .
properties
Disodium tetrasulfide is a solid that smells like rotten eggs and is soluble in water and ethanol. It has a tetragonal crystal structure with the space group I 4 2 d (space group no. 122) .
use
Disodium tetrasulfide is used for the reduction of organic nitro compounds, in the preparation of sulfur dyes , in ore flotation employed in the production of metal sulfides and in the manufacture of crosslinking agents such as bis (triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasulfide. It also serves as a precursor for certain special polymers and is an intermediate product in the electrochemical process of sodium-sulfur accumulators , where it is in liquid form due to the high operating temperature.
